Dancing The Night Away…Or, Maybe Not
Recently, I was invited to a big birthday party at a restaurant that had been transformed into a discothèque (that's how we say “night club” in Spanish)! There were big screens replaying a huge array of the music videos from the 70’s and 80’s. There were videos of Donna Summer, Cher and many others. I was totally hypnotized by their afro hair and the dancers with their skin tight glossy jump suits; twisting and writhing with their seemingly effortless choreography! Whoa, it took me back to my day!
As the night went on and the place got packed, I myself, decided to saunter on to the dance floor with my friends. After all, the 70's is MY ERA! I tried imitating the dancers in the videos. But I soon realized that much to my dismay, I wash’t moving much, although I had all the energy and intentions to do it (at least that’s what my brain was thinking)! I noticed I was even making the funny facial expressions that we do when we dance…(You know what I mean…when you pucker your lips and try to look very sexy), and it just wasn’t working! I decided I knew what was wrong, I was wearing my oxford Cole Haan shoes!!! My shoes weren’t allowing me to groove like I wanted to! In any case I place the blame on them. Have you ever noticed that certain shoes make you dance better?! (Or is it just my imagination?) Luckily the place was so packed that others weren’t aware of my clumsy moves or my sexy face. The woman dancing next to me was trying just as hard as I was. Her face showed all the energy however her body didn’t move very much either.
I have to admit that I didn’t stay and dance the night away. Like Cinderella I left before the party was over. Waaaay before, like 10pm, my bed time! I do vow to wear real dance shoes (i.e. sexy, high heel, striking) next time I go dancing…maybe I'll dance more like Cher. The Cher from the 70’s that is.
I know where to get the right shoes ;)
